Living in the Smoky Mountains affords many opportunities to the artist and/or photographer to acquire beautiful scenic views of mountains, waterfalls, hiking trails, wild flowers and local wildlife. Old buildings and communities still stand offering a visit into the past life of this old mountain range. Early morning mist is one of the unique qualities of this area that we residents enjoy nearly every day. The local Indians used their word for "smoke" to describe this white mist that so often lays over the rivers and hills especially in the early morning hours. This particular picture was taken from my deck overlooking the hills in which I live. This is a photograph that was printed in black and white and then hand-painted with oils.
